Are You Moving In the Right Direction?
Proverbs 3: 5-6, NLT
5: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend
on your own understanding.
6: Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path
to take.
Making the right choice for your life can
be a frightening thing, especially if you’re not sure what
direction to take. When we are bombarded with so many choices,
and none of them stick out as being the right one, it can feel
as though our faith is failing us. Any type of emotional trauma
such as the loss of a loved one, a broken relationship or even
the loss of a job can cause this type of fear, the kind that
makes us doubt God. We may not doubt His power, but we doubt
His timing or His willingness to bless us.
Whenever we find ourselves faced with
circumstances that trigger ambivalence in our faith, an absolute
and complete surrender to God is required. You may be thinking,
"Well if I doubt Him, how can I surrender?" This is why
crossroads and challenges are so pivotal to our spiritual
growth, because they press us to have faith when we don't think
we can.
God understands how difficult it is for us
to move in the direction of a more intimate relationship with
Him when things are shaky. He knows that there will be times
when trusting Him is a little scary. The thing is not to let
the fear cause you to abandon your faith altogether.
We need to come clean and be honest with
God. He knows all our secrets anyway. What's important is that
we acknowledge that we need His help. A move in the right
direction is as simple as saying "Father, I need some help
down here!" God wants you to learn to completely trust Him
in spite of your ambivalence and fears. This earth experience
will be full of unexpected curve balls, some that completely
knock you off your feet. There may be times when you don’t even
know where you can go or who you can lean on for refuge.
Understand this, and know it beyond any uncertainty, the Love
of God is your refuge. Jesus Christ is the only remedy for the
emotional and mental pressure that plagues our minds.
Don't allow your mind to go on auto-drive
with the cares of this world. Make a move in the right
direction by putting Jesus Christ in the driver's seat. You may
not know the right choices to make. You may not know where God
is taking you, but you CAN know that God holds the key. He's
the glue that gels every detail of our lives together, and if
you'll trust Him, He will make sure that you are always where
you need to be.
I have gone through some pretty turbulent
times...times when I began to doubt the strength of my faith in
God. I was often angry and despondent, and felt my tribulations
were too insurmountable. Answers to prayers seemed few and far
between, and for a while I believed I was alone on this journey,
that God had forsaken me. Oh how wrong I was. It was in the
trials of my life that I found my greatest strength through
Him. There was no other way to grow stronger than to stand on
the edge and witness that He would not allow me to fall. There
was no greater way to build those strong spiritual muscles of
faith than to go through the fire and be rescued by His
extraordinary love. In those dark moments I came to understand
that Jesus Christ had already paid the price for my pain. He
took on my burden when he laid his life on the cross. So no
matter how bad it got, no matter how far I ventured off the map,
the love of God was and is my compass.
We’re so used to solving problems on our
own, but thank goodness we have a Heavenly Father that instructs
us to completely lean on him. The truth is...life is often
challenging. You will go through some pretty tough times, and
you may not think your life is headed in a direction you like,
but if you will trust in our loving Heavenly Father, He will
make sure that you end up in the right place--that's for sure.
Pray this Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the
strength and courage to be victorious in every area of my life.
I thank you for not allowing my feet to fall when I am weak. I
know that if I lean and trust in You, You will never fail me nor
forsake me. No matter what struggles in life I face I know that
I am not alone because my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is always
with me. Amen.
